The Surgeon Said “It’s A Miracle”

A woman in a local congregation told me this story.  Let’s call her “Jane.”  Jane had stomach pains and nausea and went to her doctor to be tested for cancer.  Instead of cancer, the doctor found an inflamed pancreas and eventually cured it with medication.

However, the doctor’s tests also revealed that Jane had a swollen artery under her liver – one with a weakened wall that could burst at any moment and kill her.  So the doctor told her to rush to a specialist immediately.  As all this was happening, Jane had perfect peace.  She said, “I wasn’t worried, not even a little.”

So after asking her congregation to pray, she went to a specialist.  The specialist tested her and said she needed immediate surgery.  However – his test also revealed that the swollen artery was smaller than it had been originally.  Jane told him, “Well, everyone is praying.  I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s gone when I come in for surgery.”

Soon the morning for her surgery arrived, and Jane checked in the hospital.  In the Surgical Prep Room, the nurses dressed her in a gown, inserted needles in her arms, and attached monitors to her body.  Then the surgeon came in to explain the steps in the procedure.  After some discussion, he said, “Now, before we operate, let’s test you one last time.”

So he tested her one last time.  And was amazed.  His final test in the Prep Room showed that her swollen artery was healed.  No surgery was needed.

The surgeon said he’d never seen anything like it.  Her artery was in better condition in the Prep Room than it would have been if he had operated on it.

“Well,” Jane said, “I told you we were praying and that it might be gone.  God has worked miracles in my life before,” she added, “and now He’s done it again.”

The surgeon just shook his head.  “You’re right,” he said quietly, “It’s a miracle.”

Jane dressed, went home, and had no more trouble.  “The wonderful thing about it all,” she said, “is that if I hadn’t had the pain from my inflamed pancreas, I wouldn’t have known about the swollen artery, because they have no symptoms.  God used my inflamed pancreas to alert me to the danger of my swollen artery.”

She continued, “To me, this proves that God still heals today.  More than that, it proves that God has a good purpose hidden in everything bad that happens to us.”
