People are often surprised to learn how many ruins, paintings, symbols, and artifacts were left by the early Christians and still exist – largely intact – despite 2,000 years of bad weather, catastrophic wars, and marauding treasure hunters.
Regardless of these calamities, the bodies of First Century Christians still lie in Rome’s catacombs. The ruins of the apostle Peter’s home still stand in Capernaum. Sheep still graze in the fields of Bethlehem. Olive trees still bloom on the slopes of the Mt. of Olives. A First Century fishing boat that Jesus and His disciples may have used has been raised from Lake Galilee. And the coffin of Jesus’s half-brother, James, has been found in Jerusalem.
Research into Early Christian events and activities continues daily. But it’s amazing how much Early Christian history has been scientifically verified. (Much of it during the past 5-10 years.) And it’s faith-building for Christians to see actual photographs of places and things that previously they had only heard about in Sunday school classes and sermons.
It’s our prayer that the following Photographs will inspire, strengthen the faith of, and increase the Spirituality of, visitors to this blog, readers of the book, Saving Christianity, and subscribers to the “Saving Christianity” podcast. We plan to add more photos as we make more research trips. But in the meantime, the following is a list of our galleries as they exist today.
