God Even Cares About School Children’s Grades

A grandmother in a Christian small group told me this story some months ago.   Her two granddaughters came to her one day worried about a difficult test they were scheduled to take in middle school.   “Maw-maw,” they said, “pray for us at ten o’clock this Friday.   We need to make a grade in the 90s on Friday’s test to keep our grades up.”

So the grandmother asked her small group to help her pray for the two girls, and for their grades.   She said, “With so many teenagers in trouble these days, I deeply appreciate these loving Christian girls, and I want everyone to know what happened about their grades.”

The grandmother said that eventually the girls took several difficult tests in the following weeks.   And before each test, they came to her and asked her to pray.   And each time, the grandmother prayed these words, “Lord, help my girls remember everything they need to know on this test.”

The results were both amazing and touching.   Her granddaughters made grades in the 90s on every test, and their grades were among the highest in the class.   The grandmother said, “Don’t we serve a great and mighty God?   Not only are the hairs on our heads numbered, but God even knows the scores on my granddaughters’ school tests!”

She’s right, of course.   Jesus taught that God sees every sparrow that falls in the forest, and that He knows the number of hairs on our heads.   That’s why Jesus said we should never worry or be afraid as we go through life.[1.  See Matthew 10:29-31.]  After all, as God’s children, we’re much more valuable to our Father than the sparrows in the forest.  In fact, we’re more valuable to Him than any other creature walking the earth.

That gives Joanna and me great comfort.   We pray that it gives you and yours great comfort, too.
