Who Is the “Comforter”?

Who Is The "Comforter"?      Jesus promised His disciples in John, chapter 14, verse 16, that after He returned to heaven, He'd have the Father send them another "Comforter" who'd be with them forever – and I recently met a person who asked me who that "Comforter" was.      Jesus told us who the "Comforter" is in [...]

What Is An “Infant” Christian?

What Is An "Infant" Christian?      I often think about the fact that national polls and surveys show that the average Christian today behaves essentially the same way that non-Christians behave.  Have you noticed that yet?      The apostle Paul said in First Corinthians, chapter 3, verse 1:  "Brothers and sisters, I wasn't able to talk to [...]

Do Miracles From God Still Happen?

Do Miracles From God Still Happen?      People often ask me if miracles still happen to Christians today the same way they happened when Christianity was founded in the First Century.   And I always give them the same answer.  "Yes."   However, to understand that answer, we need to define "miracles."      The early Christians had two words [...]

Joanna’s Operating Room Angel

Joanna's Operating Room Angel      My wife, Joanna, doesn't like to be put to sleep.  However, she had no choice once because her gall bladder had to be removed.  On the day of the surgery, the nurses rolled her through the Operating Room doors on a gurney.  But the surgical schedule was late that morning, so [...]

Can God Cure PTSD?

Can God Cure PTSD?      I recently read about a young army medic who had served in Iraq.   After his discharge, he moved to San Francisco "To make a fresh start," as he called it.   But what he didn't realize was that he had Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).      He finally realized that he had PTSD when [...]

Why Do Christians Have So Much Trouble?

Why Do Christians Have So Much Trouble?      Question to O. A.:  I know that God is a God of Love.  So why do bad things happen to Christians?  I was in route to a meeting of our small group recently, had a flat tire, and missed the whole meeting.  Can you tell me why Christians [...]

What’s God’s Will For A Single Mom?

What’s God’s Will For A Single Mom? Question to O. A.:   I'm a 28-year-old single Christian mom, and it seems that I don't do anything but work and tend to my kids.   Does God have a greater purpose for my life?   P. Z. in West Virginia. Dear P. Z.:   Of course, raising your children and [...]

Martha’s Baby Girl Is In Critical Condition!

Martha's Baby Girl Is In Critical Condition!      Some months ago, a woman in a Christian small group told me this story.   Her sister's baby was in critical condition in another city from umbilical cord problems during delivery.  (Let's call the sister "Martha.")   The baby had already been given two blood transfusions and the family could [...]

God Cancelled Our Anniversary Cruise

God Cancelled Our Anniversary Cruise      Not long ago, a woman in a Christian small group told me this story.  She said that she and her husband had decided to take a cruise for their 30th wedding anniversary.  So they booked a cruise and prepaid the fare.      Then one morning while praying at work, a feeling [...]

Peace And Rest On Country Roads

Peace And Rest On Country Roads      Recently, a woman in a Christian small group told me this story.  She had been nursing her elderly mother in another state and it had come time to drive home.  She was exhausted, so she prayed for safety and phoned her small group for prayer.      Then as she prepared [...]
